ProvidersUnite is a grassroots coalition uniting community care and support providers across the UK to advocate for our sector survival.

Our strength lies in our shared commitment to safeguarding the future of adult care services and ensuring the voices of providers are heard at every level of government.

We bring together a diverse and vital network of care providers, collectively serving over 1.2 million individuals and employing a dedicated workforce of 1.59 million.

Together, we deliver essential community care and support services valued at £68.1 billion, highlighting the critical role we play in the well-being of our communities and the nation’s economy.

Our sector is critically underfunded today, and we need £8.4bn to meet future demand, improve access to care and cover the full cost of care by 2024/25.

The recent Autumn Budget announcements have substantially added to these costs:

The Providers Unite campaign continues to push for meaningful change in the social care sector, advocating for increased funding and policy adjustments to ensure the sustainability of these critical services.

Our analysis suggests that the real impact for Employers is underestimated, potentially exceeding projections by over £2 billion due to the combination of:

A significant 1.2 percentage point increase in Employers’ National Insurance contributions, bringing the rate to 15%.

The earnings threshold for these contributions will be lowered from £9,100 to £5,000, further intensifying the financial strain on employers.

A 6.7% increase to the National Living Wage, taking it to £12.21 for those aged over 21 and £10 for those aged over 18.

These wage increases will significantly raise operating expenses for providers, where staffing costs already account for over 70% of total expenses.

Despite these rising costs, only £880 million has been allocated for local government social care funding.

This funding is insufficient given the demands on the sector, likely forcing care providers into difficult decisions that may affect service quality and access.

Please sign our letter to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, urgently calling for an immediate review of these measures and for the establishment of exemptions similar to those granted to the NHS. Alternatively, we ask that she adjusts Local Government Finance to bridge this funding gap.
